Paleo Diet: Day One

Today I start on a new diet plan.  I’m starting the Paleo Diet for Athletes, a.k.a. the Caveman diet.  While I’d like to drop about another 10-20 pounds, the main purpose of the diet is to improve my overall fitness by improving my daily diet.

The Paleo diet is a diet structure that is based on what our human ancestors used to eat, and thus what evolution has us biologically wired to consume.  This means eliminating processed foods such as grains, sugars, and dairy.  The focus is on animal protein, fresh raw fruits and vegetables, and good fats as found in nuts and fish.  I won’t be following the diet exactly since I’ll be using a modified version for athletes that allows for more carbohydrates at specific times during the training cycle.
